Dwarf Spirit, +10% damage with Axe/Blunt Weapons is really the only useful Race skill
Warriors and Ascetic/Monk/Exorcist have the best access to Axe and Blunt weapons
Stronghearted (chance to escape death) has a very low chance of working
Filial Piety (taking damage in place of a low HP party member) may only work when partied with other Dwarves
